Let me tell you all my experience with trust funds! My father's friend taught me to buy Public Mutual fund and I chose Regular Savings Fund (5,000 units @ RM1.00 per unit), recommended by their agent in 1995. Two years later (1997), the fund shrunk to half of my cost and I was so shocked and distraught by this experience, exactly like what the above article wrote. I sold it off after more than 10 years later with a loss. If I were still holding it until now, I would be very happy and relaxed just looking at the profits which had accumulated, haiz...
I did buy a few trust funds again but because I chose the wrong timing, all of them were losses after several years and I sold them all. Somehow, I did buy Regular Savings fund more than 10 years ago and had forgotten about it until now. And wow, my profits are now 98%, hahaha! My friend's father bought a fund from Southern Bank in 1995 with capital (RM5,000.00). After his father passed away in 2017, he sold it off in 2018 with a handsome amount of RM21,000.00 plus... Omg, if I knew this fund would grow so much, I would also have bought as well, hahaha!
Is trust fund a scam? Nope, I do not think so, at all. Trust funds are long term assets and preferably more than 10 years' time. To believe or not to, is all entirely up to you!
