KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd will work with Chinese tech giant ZTE Corp's Malaysian unit on a range of research and development innovations.
TM and ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on this prospect today.
TM group chief executive officer Datuk Imri Mokhtar said the partnership would leverage the group and ZTE's joint expertise to drive innovation and digital transformation for customers and industries.
The MoU followed the announcement of next-generation accessing technology to improve Malaysia's high-speed internet service, Imri added.
TM will be ZTE's preferred business partner for the deployment of innovative solutions, go-to-market strategies, commercialisation, and networking across multiple markets and client segments in Malaysia and across the region.
The companies will also work on network and technology planning, as well as digital transformation, by combining Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Anything as a Service (XaaS) to create end-to-end solutions.
"Introducing the first ever 50Gbps bandwidth in Malaysia has prepared us to drive other innovative services such as 5G, Cloud VR, and intelligent manufacturing which will benefit communities, businesses and the government," Imri said.
ZTE Malaysia managing director Steven Ge said the partnership would create a win-win situation for both parties and set a new industry standard for strategic collaborations.
"ZTE is also committed to supporting TM's digital transformation and talent ecosystem growth through our global expertise and resources," Ge added.
The collaboration will use the companies' combined expertise to accelerate innovation and digital transformation for consumers and industries, while also improving product and technology and expanding TM's digital talent ecosystem.
The MoU, which is set to last three years, was witnessed by Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil, his deputy Teo Nie Ching and MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
