JOHOR BAHRU (May 24): Former PKR secretary general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he is afraid of the potential departure of Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli from the party, following the economy minister's failure to retain the deputy president post.

Speaking at the party’s national congress here on Saturday, Saifuddin said his feelings towards the central leadership election results, announced on Friday night, were mixed.

PKR's deputy presidency race was won by Nurul Izzah Anwar, who secured 9,803 votes against 3,866 votes by Rafizi.

“While those who won celebrated joyfully, I chose to accompany Rafizi down from the stage. I escorted him to his car. We hugged and asked each other for forgiveness," said Saifuddin in an emotional tone. "And, I admit, I am afraid of losing him from our party.”

Saifuddin, who is the Pakatan Harapan secretary general and home minister, went on to share his long history with Rafizi, saying he sees the economy minister as a younger brother. “I agree with a lot of his views, some I don’t, but we respect each other’s views.”

Rafizi (centre) lost PKR's deputy presidency on Friday.

Saifuddin called on PKR members to continue wishing Rafizi well, and hopes the Pandan member of Parliament continues to contribute to the party.

“Please let us pray for our friend Rafizi. May he be given good health. May his heart be lightened to see how we, the PKR family, even though we have differences, still hope he continues to contribute to our party,” Saifuddin said.

Rafizi has shared via social media that he feels relieved “to return to living a private life” after his defeat.

Nonetheless, he noted that he had no intention of giving up his idealistic belief that Malaysia deserves better, and is grateful that with more time on his hands, he can spend more time with everyday Malaysians.

It is clear. There is no egg before the chicken. It is because of the chicken, we have egg.

Rafizi didnt not lose to Nurul. Rafizi lose to subsidies reduction and cancelation, which typically lead to political suicide. Trump/Elon suffer the same fate.
