KUALA LUMPUR (May 25): It is not so much artful versatility — from the epic to the spectacle and the intimate — that underlies the creative destiny of Saw Teong Hin. It is apparently more fluid: “creating something that resonates with the audience” and the simple play of “outrageous fortune”, the lauded director affirms, as he helms his first horror feature, Laknat.
The story is set in a small village, and is about a man whose sister dies a violent death. Being overwhelmed by the episode, he turns to black magic for answers, and as in all such films, everything unravels. The film, which stars Aeril Zafrel and Puteri Balqis, among others, “treads a line between what is real and what is not”.
For MB&F’s 20th anniversary, the independent watchmaker is finally adding a third line to the mix, inaugurated by a timepiece that debuts new dimensions. The Special Collection is largely dedicated to the pile of projects that have lain dormant over the years — half-done sketches and flashes of wild ideas that perhaps were unfeasible, or simply of lower priority at the time.
