KUALA LUMPUR (July 10): The US has nominated Nick Adams, an Australian-born naturalised American conservative political commentator, to be its ambassador to Malaysia.

His nomination, along with the ambassadorial nominations for Thailand, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan, was announced in a brief White House statement on Thursday.

The nominees will have to be confirmed by the US Senate.

Adams, 40, has not served in any US State Department role previously.

Described as a "Twitter troll", he is a strong supporter of US President Donald Trump and had campaigned for him in the 2024 presidential election.

"Mr President, thank you for the honor of a lifetime. In your America, all dreams come true. It will be my honor to represent the United States of America in Malaysia," Adams said in an X post after his nomination was announced.

"To the esteemed members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I look forward to a confirmation process that is at the heart of the Constitution that has given me the freedom to pursue the American Dream."

Before coming to the US, Adams had served as a Liberal Party councillor in Sydney.
