300 Ipoh Barat PKR members quit, join Gerakan
IPOH (March 24): Frustrated with the internal power struggle and how the party ignored the interests of the people, a total of 300 members of Ipoh Barat Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) branch quit the party and joined Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan).
Perak Gerakan chairman Datuk See Tean Seng said these individuals quit PKR a year ago and now officially joined Gerakan after receiving the membership application form.
“Thus far, a total of 300 former PKR members from Ipoh Barat division have expressed their desire to join us. Of that number, about 50 membership forms were completed and submitted. There are also applications that are still under review.
“We accept their applications and will provide information on our struggle,” he said in a press conference at Wisma Gerakan in Ipoh today.
Meanwhile, a representative of the former PKR members, Alfaizal Shahul Hamid, 44, said they made the decision to quit due to power struggles that often occur in the PKR leadership apart from people’s problems having been ignored since the 14th General Election (GE14).
“Their struggles are only for themselves and not for the people. Therefore, I joined other members [who] quit the party,” he said in the same press conference.
