KUALA TERENGGANU (May 23): Players in the country’s poultry industry are told to not continue with the chicken price game by reducing the supply of chicken in the market as such an action is burdening the people.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister II Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said there should not be any shortage of chicken supply in the market.

"If there is a shortage of chicken supply, it means that there is something not right happening,” he told reporters at the Aidilfitri celebration hosted by the Terengganu Malaysian Fisheries Development Board here on Monday (May 23).

According to him, the ministry is also working with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs to investigate the matter.

He hopes that players in the poultry industry could work with the government to help the people.

something not right happening. yeah, that is because of incompetent politician helming the position. asked the supplier to provide poultry and cap the selling price. indirectly asking suppliers to do losing biz. of course supplier would stop producing to reduce losses. Singapore retail chicken price around sgd6.60 per kg. here, the gov said can sell at rm8.90 per kg. you go and figure. even 50% cheaper than Singapore it would be sgd3.30 = rm10.50 per kg.

but govn should honour the subsidy payment. nobody goes into business to lose money. otherwise just let it follow market price. if govn thinks it can do better, go ahead and take over the business. run the farms.
